A group by residents, for the residents
Our Project
Newlands Community Group is continually evolving, looking around the area to find out what needs fixing or changing, talking to residents to find out what they need, talking to developers and local authorities to find out how we can work together to make it happen. A lot of hard work in the background leads to projects in the now, with many ideas waiting until we have the volunteers or monetary resources to push them forward to the next stage and make ideas a reality.
In these times of rising costs and austerity, we cannot rely on local authorities to deliver some of the amenities which would benefit the lives of all people living in an area such as this. Many local authorities are facing serious budget cuts and decisions have been made to terminate or trim some services or amenities which many would consider necessary. Newlands Community Group is committed to enabling services and amenities to improve and survive, by putting that power in your hands. You say what you want, but then you have to help make it a reality, by giving some of your time, experience, knowledge, and maybe a small donation, to help create a better tomorrow. For you when your older, for your children's children. An environment to be proud of. A place to call home.
Newlands in Bloom is a long term strategy to create naturally beautiful environments in spaces in and around the village.
We have our first planting area given the green light and we have begun to put teams together to carry out the works needed.
This is just the beginning, with many ideas yet to be realized.
Newlands Repair Café
Newlands Community Group will be joining thousands of other communities across the globe in setting up a Repair Café. This incentive not only helps the environment, but also helps your pocket, by repairing rather than binning, your broken toys, push bikes, toasters, hoovers, and almost anything, we help reduce our carbon footprint.
In 2023 we had our first Rock snake challenge. This was introduced to us by Emily Jane of Dragonfly Arts. It was such a success that we decided to keep it running for the next few years. It runs through June to August, people create some amazing designs on rocks and join the snake. We collect the rocks and treat them with laquer and then they get stored. Eventually all of the snakes will become a showpiece in the brand new village centre.
